Mgr. RT Dept. since 04/08 @ St Charles
Knew Lori as Woody.  Stellar employee.  Punctual, patient advocate.  Comforted them and family like no other. Never any complaints etc..  Did performance evaluations. Worked with her, never had concerns with performance.  Socialized outside of work, away from work she was the same.  In stressful situations, only at work, calm able to have crucial conversations with co-workers, never late or missed a shift.

State calls Andy Knight
Defense objects-Jury out-
Hearsay from Woody, State – Conversation from Woody, knew Lori since 12/01.  Saw her at end of shift, leaving work, they assembled a device.  She said when leaving ‘I hope he’s not drunk’. He said she could come to his house.  Her demeanor-she was concerned, dreading going home
Pros-relevant-shows her state of mind and def may have been the one with the drinking problem.  Def-no q’s lack of relevance.  –Overruled- Jury In-
Repeat testimony.
Plus she was the ‘Go to person’, knew where everything was, enthusiastic, detail-oriented.
Def- No q’s

State calls Barbara Moore: Self-employed, land-scaper, 30 years here in C.O. Met Lori through Rocky.  Activities: Ski, Rodeo’s, B’day parties, consistently.  Knows Steve, from Mt. Bach in 80’s, alcohol consumed, Lori consistent with others, she was outgoing, lively, fun.  Like that but more so after drinking, never saw her ‘drunk’. Never saw her attack, strike anyone.  Upset-seen before- she would have to leave.  She would talk about it, never react.  Seen Steve consume alcohol, not witness to excess, observations of Def drinking-objection Def, strike comment- would notice changes, rowdier, not knowing when to say when.  No change in alcohol consumption after marriage.  Had contact with Def in 2010. 10/10 saw her at a birthday party (Rick Davis’ def’s boss) lived in same neighborhood.  Lori not there, went down to her house to see why not there, she was home, didn’t answer the door first time.  She was upset.  She said-Objection by Defense, -Jury Out-
Woody said ‘I’m so glad it’s you, if it was Jane or anyone else I wouldn’t answer, I’m sick of the Blaylocks”.
Def-Hearsay, not relevant.  Pros-shows state of mind, relevant. –Jury back in-
(I think it was overruled, and Jury didn’t get to hear that-cant’ remember)
Pros- Never saw Lori attack, kick, strike anyone.  In stressful situation0medical-she’d come to the rescue. (like at Mt. Bachelor), Emotional situations, socially, she’d just leave.
Def- Would you describe Def as low key?, socially jolly, upbeat.  Non-abrasive? Barbara-‘I couldn’t say that.” Seen Lori jealous?  Maybe if Def wasn’t paying attention to her or cheating.  Not at Reed pub, social events, alcohol consumed.  A source-social thing for her like ‘Cheers’ instead of staying home alone.  After marriage.  When she would leave on the ski lift, would just ski off.  Bought her own home, her safe place.  Yes remember making comment to police officer “Woody doesn’t know when to shut up” .  Because she could escalate an argument, ‘triggers’, Barbara had been in abusive situations.  Never seen def kicked out of house.  Continued relationship, nice people.
Pros- Def physically fit, farmer water-skied, could take care of himself.  Had a knee injury from skiing, did rehab.  Change in def’s alcohol consumption-objection, overruled- became more aware of it cause he was Woody’s husband.  Talked to Pat Hartley, discussed def’s use of alcohol.  Woody had discussed ‘dysfunctional’ marriage with her.  No more q’s.

State calls Jeff Mondry:  Self-employed 27 years, house painter, knows Def 3.5 years, met over a beer at Reed pub, Regular at Reed.  About 12 other regulars there.  Describe Reed-just beer, over 40 kinds, micro-brews.  Great place if you like beer.  Not much after 7pm.  Met Lori Fall of 1997, probably over a beer at Deschutes Brewery.  Started seeing each other in 98, dated for about 2 years.  Remained solid friends, kept contact.  Was invited to dinner and he entertained Woody’s Aunt while she cooked.  10/26/10, Thursday 28th Def walked into pub-expressed concern with relationship with Woody, and she had left.  Maybe 25th Woody mentioned changing the locks.  Def was on the way to valley.  10/26 scratch on cheek, def said Woody had thrown a high-heeled shoe at him.  Said she had walked away, Jeff said she reacts like that to stressful situations.  One argument she had with Jeff, watching a movie, got on phone for 15 minutes, she walked home, he found her, she said it was rude to take that call.  Never seen her attack, hit anyone.  Had delicate hands.  Back to 10/28 Def’s demeanor, not happy- a 3 on scale 1-10.  Known def quite a while, looked worried, weather or not going over the pass to birthday party.  Jeff said’ she just needs to cool off & maybe doesn’t want Steve to know where she is’.  Last seen Thursday.  On 10/31 def walked in, looked beat up-disheveled, weight of the world, posture, said well, she’s not home yet.  Jeff thinking-volatile relationship and she’s not going to be available to him, she’s very independent, she could easily avoid him.  She was devoted to work, about disappearing- she’d always go home.
Defense- Normally characterize def-generally happy guy, relationship changed him, not really Lori, struggling.  Told def to walk away in 09/10 because she didn’t seem happy.  Ever perceive jealousy? Yes, she’d let you know.  Only socialized in public settings.  No more q’s.
Pros- Only scratch on cheek, no other injuries.  Yes.

State calls Myra Grisel:   Lives next door to Woody, 13 years.  Was contacted by police 11/4/10, questioned about def, 11/1 def was at her door asking if she had seen woody or heard anything.  Said ‘we had a really big fight, Lori was really drunk and she left, I’m usually the one to leave, found keys on the driveway the next day.  I called a few of her friends but was told not to call the police cause she sometimes disappears for days.’
  Objection-Def-Overruled

Myra draws location of her house, and bedroom, in reference to woody’s house.  Met def at front door, he would never have come over before.  (previous conversation) then his cell phone rang and he left.  Had no further contact.  Demeanor-normal.  Next day, was outside, police came by, Lori’s work called ‘no show’. Trailer was not there.  Ever witnessed altercation.  July 2010, was in bed, windows open, heard something, Heard screaming and yelling from Blaylock house, went on a few minutes, was a male voice.  Total rage, suddenly all the lights went out, went dark.  Female voice was answering him in a normal tone, quiet.  Saw her the next day and was glad she was OK.

Looked like someone had been there, searched for clues as to where could be, felt not right, contacted deidre, checked computer records, found steve’s address in Deschutes River Woods.  Went out there.  House had been repossessed; all rooms had stuff in them, but looked deserted.  Went to station, contacted Kelly Fletcher and Rocky.  Started searching neighborhood, vacant homes, ravine.  Noon called def, left message, he didn’t call back (11/2).  Hear she had a niece-Marissa- living with Greg, 3 blocks away, bend plating, didn’t know him.  7pm contacted Saving Grace & homeless shelters.  11/3 Deidre called- Woody didn’t show up at work, went back to house.
Defense- No questions

State calls Detective Pat Hartley:  Bend Police Dept. 2002 law enforcement, prior- Prineville police for 3 years.  11/2 became involved with this case.  Steve Craig, other officers, Lori missing, walked away, generic phone records.  Searching family, bank records, establishments, medial contacts, trying to locate cell phone.  Def coming in, had task to interview him.  Multiple friends concerned raised response level. 4:30 pm 11/1 contacted def.  He had not called to report her missing, goal for interview-illicit where Lori was, gather facts, info bank records, phones, what searched, friends not yet contacted.  Been almost a week, assumed family had been searching, not the case.  Met def in lobby, demeanor was calm, went into interview room.  Recorded 2.5 hour interview 11/2/10 4:38 PM.  Told Def was free to leave at any point.

Bruised on hip, scratch on face, all BS and stuff.  Det left room, def alone on camera, nervous, stretches and says ‘Oh God’.
Def said possible meth use ‘she’s probably at a meth house for all I know’.  Det Hartley sends agents to search house while interviewing def.  Took pictures of his face, also scratch on arm and opposite hand, no bruise on hip like he had said.  While taking pictures Def asks’ am I under arrest?’. Lori changed deadbolt and doorknob on Thursday.  Said 3rd time she’d done that, because she was mad at him.  She was sitting on porch smoking cigars, then gave him a set of keys.  Def kept getting off of subject of Lori missing.  Betty Bernt x-wife in silverton .  Inheritance, Aunt had died 3 months earlier. Def said’ that was a pain in the ass’.  Woody always kept $2-300 in chair under sewing machine desk, it was gone.  Det. Hartley checked his cell phone.  Def had no bank accounts no credit card, just unemployment debit card.  Woody would go to credit union and cash a check when needed money.  Motorcycle trailer at x-wife’s house.  Det Hartley asked def to write down what he remembered, left room.  Def ‘fuck!’ .
Came back, searched def.
